What is the appeals process?
The appeals process allows students and families to provide additional information regarding a student’s Math and/or ELA placement. For both subjects, students will complete additional steps over the summer to experience an advanced or accelerated learning environment. Final placement decisions will be made at the beginning of August based on this process.
How do students appeal their placement?
Once placement letters are sent out, students who did not place into their desired class may begin the appeals process by completing the Appeal Google Form. This form will be available in mid-May when placement letters are released.
After the Google Form is submitted, families will receive a follow-up letter outlining next steps, including required summer work:
- ELA: Students will complete a novel study that includes reading, writing, completing online responses, and participation in online class discussions held a few times in June and July. Attendance in these sessions is required.
- Math: Students will complete an individualized online learning path designed to prepare them for standards that will be skipped by advancing a level. Teachers will be available throughout June and July via Google Classroom, as well as during scheduled in-person and/or online support sessions.
Final Placement
Final placement decisions will be made after all required work is completed. It is essential that all deadlines are met in order to remain in the appeals process.
